Preface

This is a working draft of a textbook built from the lectures for GEOG 215, Spatial Data Science.

Every chapter is a runnable Quarto document. The R code in each chapter runs when the book is built, so the tables and maps you see come from the code printed beside them.

Before you start

Several chapters download data from web APIs. For the US Census chapters, request a free API key at https://api.census.gov/data/key_signup.html and store it once:

tidycensus::census_api_key("YOUR KEY HERE", install = TRUE)

This saves the key to your .Renviron file, so it never needs to appear in your scripts.
